Hey I dont know what size saddle I should be using on my horse, shes a 2 yr old half saddlebred, half walkin horse, but she doesnt look like it. I need a used one thats pretty cheap, but I have no idea whats good to break her in. I want a western one, nothing special. if anyone has any ideas of where to get a used saddle at let me know!

To get a good idea of saddle fit, you need to do a withers tracing. A good description of how to do this can be found at the Crest Ridge Saddlery site (crestridgesaddlery.com). You can take the tracing to a tack shop or mail it to a mail-order shop to see if the saddles available will fit your horse at the saddle gullet and bar spread.

You can find inexpensive saddles on eBay, either new cheap ones or used brand-name saddles. The sellers will usually measure any part of a saddle for you. You can refer to your withers tracing to see if the saddle is likely to fit. The problem with eBay or other mail-order saddles is that even though many sellers will let you return the saddle if it doesn't fit, the shipping is nonrefundable and it is expensive to send the saddle back. So you want to work with a seller who is very good at helping you determine saddle fit.

I've learned the hard way (from buying cheap saddles) that you're better off spending the money for a quality saddle. It'll last longer and be more comfortable for you and your horse. This isn't the place to pinch pennies.

I hope this helps.
