I just talked my Boss into letting me use the western saddle that has been sitting in the tack room at least for the past two years and probably more. I checked it out and found it was a "Fallis Balanced Ride" saddle made by the father, Slim. It has an Oak leaf tooling on it
I thought I'd ask around and see what else I coul learn about it. It is a great saddle, I know that. but I am sure the wisdom in this group could educate me a little. I have been to their website and thought I'd get some of the word from those sitting on the corral fence.
I haven't found any numbers on it yet.

Hi Dusty,
It just so happens that I am very familiar with the Fallis Balanced Ride saddle, I own two. Since I started riding in the Fallis saddle, I have not ridden in another except for my dressage saddle. My daughter has a saddle that Slim made at least 20 or more years ago that is a 13.5 seat, endurance model (slick fork). I LOVE that saddle. John Fallis actually came to Harriman, TN, a year or so ago and helped Schuyler and me learn about how to adjust the stirrups, etc. My Fallis saddle is also an endurance-type model, but with a swell fork, no horn. The difference in the seat of this saddle is that it is virtually flat, pretty much puts the rider in the correct position, "the rider's groover" so to speak, with your legs UNDER you, not behind or ahead of you. But my saddle is a 15" so it is just a little big for me, but I am happy to have it, just the same. I end up sharing it now and then with a couple of riders in the barn that covet it......SOMEDAY I will buy a new one, when I am not so horse-poor!!!
You can e-mail John Fallis or call him and he can tell you (if you find the numbers on it) when the saddle was made, etc. If it needs re-doing or repairing, he will gladly do that too. He is a very nice and knowledgeable man, and honest, too.
If your boss EVER wants to sell that saddle, PLEASE let me know!

Thank you for the prompt response!
Yeah! I have been coveting that saddle for a couple of years and finally have gotten use of it. If she decides to sell it, I will do everything I can to purchase it! If that should not work out, I'll let you know!
I'll renew my search for the numbers. I didn't look too hard.
She had it checked out by someone who does repairs and it's in great shape. Sh soggested repkacing the latigosm so, I am replacing the billets on both sides with some real latigo my girlfriend got from a saddle maker. The saddle needs to be refleeced and I had been looking around for someone to do it, I hadn't considered John Fallis. It's worth a call! |

Hi Dusty! Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to the forum, but I've been "horsing around" for the last week, and no time much for the computer!
By all means, give John Fallis a call. The most expensive part of the repair will be the shipping, probably. AND you will have the saddle back in mint condition. He is an excellent saddle maker, and he actually KNOWS most of the saddles that he or his father made. I called him before I bought my first one (used) and he knew the person that I was buying it from and it's history. When he came to Harriman the next month, I took the saddle to him and he looked it over real well and sent it on home with me. I think you will have a life-long love affair with the saddle if you can get it!
If you need his phone number, I will give it to you. Or, you can contact him by e-mail. He is very prompt in replying.
GOOD LUCK and HAPPY TRAILS!!!!
